Brissy!!! It's hard to rank the places that we have visited so far but I would say Brisbane is in my top 5. I love this city. It's definitely a city that I wouldn't mind living in (I've said that about 2-4 places now). It's bike friendly and has a great energy in and around the city and especially around the river (look up Southbank). One of the first things we noticed was how active everyone seemed to be. People were running, paddle boarding, riding bikes, exercising on free outdoor equipment, swimming laps in the man made lagoon, etc. It was great! |
Anelle and I went to Brisbane for 1 night when we took a day off from our volunteering in Cooroy. Cooroy to Brissy takes about 2 hours driving. We went for two reasons; to visit our friend Suren from Adelaide who is now living in Brisbane and to complete a barista course.
We booked an Airbnb apartment on Kangaroo Point and spent the first day riding bikes around the city. We took some breaks along the way for food, coffee and some book shopping. That night, we met up with Suren for dinner and caught up on everything; our travels, his move from Adelaide to Brissy, his new job, our honeymoon, etc. It was simply great to see a familiar face and a friend while we shared some some Nepalese food in his new neighborhood.

The next day, we woke up early and attended a full day barista course. Since our arrival in Oz, we have great enjoyed the coffee culture so we decided to pick up a skill to take back home with us and enjoy in the comorts of our own home. Hopefully, we will be upgrading our coffee machine, and hopefully we will be making some cool latte art on our caps, mochas and flat whites! Probably return as complete coffee snobs...
The Barista course was a long day and a bunch of info to take in, in 5 hours. We left with major amounts of caffeine in our system (not complaining) and our brains a little overloaded with information. All in all, it was great fun. We were meant to meet up with Suren for an early dinner but we were pretty exhausted and did not want to drive at night so we decided to make our way back to Cooroy. BUT before we left, I needed DONUTS!!! I was on a mission! Leading up to the trip, I researched on where to get the best donuts and I am happy to report that Brissy donuts are legit!

Brissy was loads of fun. It was nice to be back in a city and see people, high rise buildings and more food options. Stay cool Brissy!
I miss my bike back home and therefore, I was extremely excited to jump on some bikes and cruise the city. In all my travels, some of the best experiences have always been riding bikes. Drunk night rides in Florence, sightseeing in Seattle, crossing the bridge and dominating hills in San Francisco, etc. For some reason, we haven't done it but we FINALLY did in Brissy and it was heaps of fun!
