G'day mates! At the moment Anelle and I are about to finish up our first week with our second volunteer location in Mossman, which is just north of Port Douglas in north Queensland. We are pretty much settled in and look forward to spending the month of September up here making friends with other volunteers and saving some money NOT traveling, not paying for accommodation and not having to purchase food. We do have a diving trip that we will knock out later this month but other than that, all we have planned is some short hours of work, lounging around the pool, walks along the beach, an occasional kayaking session and searching for crocodiles in the area. |
This post will catch everyone up entirely on our month of July. The last few posts included all the travels throughout July after leaving Adelaide. Our honeymoon (for Anelle) or 1 year anniversary (how I like to think of it) capped off the month of July in style. After camping and braving the cold, we finally got time to relax and be warm. Pools, beaches, hammocks, great food and tropical drinks with umbrellas in them; honeymoon DONE! During our honeymoon/1 year anniversary, we stayed in two locations. The first location was gifted to us by my parents and we absolutely loved it. Great location next to 4 mile beach, huge comfy bed (no more tent), great restaurant and an amazing pool! Thanks Mom and Dad! During our time there, we jumped into our gangsta car rental and took a trip to the Daintree Rain Forest. We spent the day at the Daintree Discovery Centre where we learned about the trees and animals; specifically the dinosaur looking cassowary. We got an incredible view from the canopy tower and finished off with some quality indigenous bush tucker. Bush tucker are native foods that are used by the original inhabitants (aboriginals). Before leaving, we made a stop for dessert at the Daintree Ice Cream Company. The second location was absolute bliss as you can see by these photos :) The Thala Resort is a nature reserve in Port Douglas. We spent a few nights there and did not leave the resort for any reason; because there was no reason to leave. The food, drinks, service, beach and nature kept us 100% entertained, relaxed and happy. We had amazing meals (breakfast being my favorite), great drinks and saw heaps of wildlife. On our walk to the the beach and to our private bungalow, we saw 2 pythons, 1 brown tree snake, frogs, bats, a lace monitor and a couple of tarantulas. One of our days there, we were surprised by Anelle's parents with a gift voucher for massages and a made picnic that we thoroughly enjoyed at a table on the beach. THANK YOU! It was great week and half between the two locations. We spent our anniversary watching our wedding video and going through some pictures. Such incredible memories and times with all of our family and friends. To our parents, thank you THANK YOU for everything you do and have done. Most of the pictures where from our iPhones because I didn't want to be carrying around my camera gear and I really wanted to enjoy our time together in these places without distractions. I did catch a few GoPro clips and put together a video that we can hopefully look back at for years to come. Have a look! So, that was our July. Crazy amounts of driving. Survived the cold. Got some sun on a private resort beach. Drank out of coconuts and fell asleep on hammocks. It was a fun filled month. That catches everyone up! Now, I need to catch you up on what we did in August...
