Talk about a DRIVE! From the Flinders Ranges, we made our way to the heart of Australia; Uluru! It took three stops for the night in Port Augusta, Coober Pedy and Erldunda.
In Port August we set up camp at the Shoreline Caravan Park. We didn't do a thing in Port Augusta other than connect to WIFI, shower and go to bed. The following morning we took off towards Coober Pedy. It was about a five and half drive with a few stops along the way for a much needed stretch
Coober Pedy! Yay!! We planned on staying at the Oasis Tourist Park but one drive through there and we were not having it. We went straight over to the Big 4 Caravan Park, which looked and felt like a 4 star resort in comparison. They even had a great Pizzeria with tables around a fire place; it's a big deal when you've been camping in cold weather. After camping and a long drive, we felt deserving of a family sized pizza that we devoured between the three of us.
Coober Pedy was about as much fun as riding a kiddie tractor ride. Seriously, that was the highlight!
Not really. There was some other things that we checked out around the town. There was the underground church, the museum and the Big Wench....it took about 30-45 minutes to see everything and then we were ready to relax because the next day was another long drive.
After a night in fuuuuuuuun Coober Pedy, it was time to get another stretch of our road trip knocked out. Another five hours and we would be making our final stop in Erldunda; the last stop before arriving in Uluru.
The road trip was long and easy with the stops along the way. It was not the best part of this trip so far but I loved being in the open space and seeing the environment go from mountains and trees filled with birds and roos hopping around to the flat outback filled with hawks in the air and emus on roaming. We checked it off the list and now we would FINALLY arrive to the center of Australia.
