The last week we have spent camping on Fitzroy island and spending some time in Port Douglas celebrating our one year anniversary. My sister is now home after being a part of our travels for a month. She toughed it out with us through all those cold nights of camping. She lead the way in through various hikes, and she never complained when she was squished in the back of the car with our luggage during those long hours on the road. She's a great travel buddy and we were happy to have her with us. Doing a bit of catch up here. Today's post is about the Cairns Tropical Zoo and then I will have some coming up on our time spent chasing waterfalls in the Tablelands and our last days with my sister on Fitzroy Island.

Getting up before the sun while camping in the cold is pretty tough. We kept it as easy as possible. Brushed our teeth, used the toilet and just got into the car in our jammies. You can't be bothered to change when you're getting up for a sunrise in the cold!
When you get to the center of Australia you will find the two main attractions are Uluru and Kata Tjuta (choo-ta). I'll be honest and say that I was not 100% excited to see a huge rock but from the moment it surprises you on the horizon, I was captured. It's incredibly ginormous. The pictures above are that of Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Both incredibly important to the local aboriginal communities. Both incredible and drastically different. It's definitely one of those places that needs to be visited in person to fully appreciate the landscapes. Pictures look great and editing helps but there is nothing like watching the face of the rocks change colors right before your eyes during a sunset and sunrise.
Talk about a DRIVE! From the Flinders Ranges, we made our way to the heart of Australia; Uluru! It took three stops for the night in Port Augusta, Coober Pedy and Erldunda.
Hello everyone!! We have been on the road and unable to get reliable internet for the last two weeks. We just got to Alice Springs today where we do not have anything planned but rest and laundry before catching a plane to Cairns tomorrow arvo.
Here's how we spent the first five days in the Flinders Ranges camping. We camped at the Wilpena Pound Resort for three nights and then one night at the Aroona campground. All of our days were filled with exploring the beautiful ranges. |
