After lunch at the Central Market, we walked around and picked up some mixed nuts, fruit, and jerky for the road trip that was coming up a couple days later. From the Central Market, we jumped on the city tram towards North Terrace. On the way to the Botanical Gardens, we stopped for some caffeine to take away. We took our time through the botanical gardens, while my father and brother in-law (David and Adrian) showed off their knowledge when it came to the Latin words for a variety of trees. I think one was the “Ginormous Gummy” and my personal favorite was something like the “Eucalyptus Maximus.” Like I said, it’s been a week filled with laughs. From the gardens, we walked along the Torrens River before stopping for dinner. After walking along the Torrens, we went to grab some food at Street Adl. South Australian cider with some chips and kangaroo dogs. YUM!
Anelle and I have had an extremely fun filled week with my in-laws. As expected, the week was filled with eating, drinking, hiking and an abundance of laughter. Before hitting the road, we would spend a few days in Adelaide. Day one consisted of lunch at the Central Market, coffee, walking through the Botanical Gardens, lunch and a couple of cocktails before calling it a day. South Australian cider with some chips and kangaroo dogs. YUM! It’s always an easy transition to a city like Adelaide if you enjoy food and nature. Take a look! For our second day, Anelle and I planned a hike, lunch in Hahndorf and a visit to the Cleland Wildlife Park. Anelle and I picked up a car from Budget Rental, picked up the familia and hit the road. It only took about one minute for me to start worrying about spending so much time in one car with my in-laws. I was either being dared to drive around one roundabout multiple times (naturally I did it) or being told I was driving on the wrong side. It was all good fun. We spent a few hours hiking through Morielta where we saw a few wild koalas napping in gum trees a few feet above our heads. Adrian posed as a koala in a tree, I climbed and sat on a tree branch hanging over a cliff, Anelle and her parents found shelter in a cave and we all built up a huge appetite. Good thing too because our next stop was Hahndorf to have a big German feast with a few pints. Slow cooked juicy pork hock, bockwurst, bratwurst, cheese kranski sausage & smoked kassler pork chop with a few pints was the perfect amount for all of to share. As you can tell from the pictures below, we left happy and ready to check out some of South Australia’s iconic animals at the Cleland Wildlife Park. The Cleland Wildlife Park gives visitors an opportunity to hold koalas, feed kangaroos and see plenty of other animals that make South Australia home. Take a look. WINE COUNTRY And that completes the first few days in Adelaide, South Australia. The next phase of the visit was the Great Ocean Road towards Melbourne. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures and stories. I especially hope the in-laws can look back on everything they saw and did and be really happy. Next up...hours and hours on the road in one car with my in-laws. Uh oh
