I hope you all enjoyed the previous post that Anelle wrote. I'm excited for her family to arrive...mostly, because I want to open up that bottle of wine and I want to check out wine country too! We have a booked tour in Barossa with them, which should be a great time. Anyhow, last weekend didn't amount to much. After the previous busy three day weekend, we just wanted to relax. On Friday night, we met up with a group of friends from my work and grabbed dinner, drinks and donuts at The Garden. This would be our last visit to The Garden as The Fringe festival would be coming to an end.
On Saturday morning Anelle met up with Russell in order to participate in some of his research at the University of South Australia. After spending a couple of hours there, she met up with Laura for lunch. While she was busy for most of the day, I hit the gym, did some research in the library, took my camera in to get cleaned and grabbed some sushi for lunch. That night, Anelle and I just stayed in and watched movies. We grabbed some delicious popcorn from Rundle and relaxed.

On Sunday, we slept in and had a big breakfast. Once we managed to get going, we decide to check out a bar and cafe that we could potentially take her family when they visit next week. Before that, we grabbed lunch. Anelle has been craving dumplings since we landed it seems like. We walked to East End and tried Dumpling King. With a name like that, it had to be good right? Thankfully, it was. She got a soup and I got some steamed rice with beef and veggies. She also ordered some dumplings to share. It was a good lunch. After that we walked further down and visited a couple of cafes we haven't tried yet. When it comes to cafes, there are heaps of options. A few chain cafes but mostly privately owned small cafes and they all seem to do well. I wonder exactly how much is spent on coffee and how much is consumed here in Adelaide. Anyways, after making two stops right next door to each other, we decided on Cocolat Cafe. Anelle ordered a capachino with a tiramisu and I had a flat white with a raspberry dark choco muffin. We sat outdoors and people watched while discussing our first visitors from home. We are both extremely excited see our family and make some incredible memories over the next few weeks with them.
Somewhere between discussing the Great Ocean Road and how good my muffin was, I lost Anelle to her reading Adelaide's CityMag. It's a daily/nightly occurrence that I lose Anelle to her Kindle. Normally, I would try to distract her with childish behavior but since we were in public, I attempted to act my age. I simply played with my camera, which felt like new after its cleaning. After spending maybe an hour there, we moved on to try some cocktails.

Street Adl is literally 5 feet over from the cafe we were just at. One of the things I love about living in this city is the proximity of all the bars, cafes, restaurants, etc. We had eaten at Street Adl before but this visit was only about their cocktails. To our delight, they had live music playing and the artist was great. One of the things that caught my eye about this bar originally were the crosses that decorate their walls. We grabbed our cocktails and grabbed a table outside. People watching is great anywhere in the world really, but especially when traveling. Venice Beach is probably one of our favorite places in the world to people watch. There are some bat shit crazies down there...good and bad. It's a tad tamer here but still really enjoyable. I couldn't stop looking at one couple that were displaying some pretty strong levels of PDA. They were sitting at a table behind Anelle and completely in my line of sight. Their chairs were facing each other with her legs open and over his legs (in a sundress). Is that image making sense? She's basically straddling him but not so full on. They seemed a bit hippy but cool people. There were two empty beer bottles and bottle of wine they were working on. After spending a good hour there, we headed back home for a rest.
Sunday night was the last night of Blinc and we wanted to make sure we caught all the different light shows on the buildings. If you don't recall, Blinc was part of the Adelaide Festival of the Arts that projected light shows accompanied by sound on buildings. My absolute favorite show was projected on the Parliament building and it was titled Retina. Retina was accompanied by some poetry and some great visuals of eyes, Earth and space which simply sucked you into the show. Take a look at a few pictures I got before zoning out.
And here are a few videos that I took on my iPhone.
Anelle and I will be continuing to take it easy as we get ready for the arrival of my in-laws on Tuesday. Exciting adventures are ahead! Adelaide, the Great Ocean Road, Melbourne and then Easter in Sydney! Sydney is the most beautiful city I have ever visited and I cannot wait to get back there. I have never been to Melbourne but I am extremely excited to see what it has to offer and see if it can rival my opinion of Sydney.
I am out. Time to go ball and further my street legend status on the courts of Adelaide. See-ya!
