Slowly catching up to where Anelle and I currently are. We loved the Tablelands and are open to going back for some work but we are waiting on another possible opportunity. Hopefully I will have the next post on our time camping on Fitzroy Island soon. Anelle and I are currently relaxing at the Dougies Hostel in Port Douglas while we try to find some casual work and/or volunteer opportunities. See-ya!
The Tablelands are just about an hour outside of Cairns, Queensland. We spent two nights and three days in the area, which is the perfect amount of time to visit heaps of waterfalls and go swimming all on a very relaxed pace. Day one we visited Dinner Falls. It included a short bush walk with a waterfall at the end that only the brave jump into around this time of year...brave because it's bloody cold! Along the hike to the falls we were extremely lucky to spot this guy in the trees; a Tree Kangaroo!! Probably one of our favorite things throughout our travels when it occurs; spotting wildlife! We ended the day by searching the nearby creek for playtpuses. We spent nearly an hour at dusk walking up and down a creek nearby our AirBnb host's home trying to spot a platypus. Our luck continues! We spotted a male and female platypus. I wasn't able to capture a picture but Anelle got a short video on her phone when one happened to pop up right in front of us. Take a look! It was great way to end the day. The next day we visited the Milla Milla Falls Circuit which includes 3 beautiful falls. We visited 6 waterfalls in total by the end of the day. Our first stop is a popular swimming spot and the location for the original Herbal Essences commercial, Milla Milla Falls. We also stopped by Nurada Tea Plantation where we saw another tree kangaroo; see if you can spot him in the trees. We ended this day by visiting the widest waterfall in Australia, Millstream Falls. Our final day we visited a crater lake; Lake Echam where Anelle finally got in the water and went for a swim with my sister. We also visited the Milla Milla lookout point and yup, some more waterfalls. Our final stop was the natural water slide of Josephine Falls. We did not know it while we were making the drive to this location, but my sister and I had been here before with our parents. It's an absolutely beautiful location and we were happy to be back; although this time the water was much colder. We got there towards the end of the arvo so the sun was gone and the water was plenty cold. Anelle and I toughed it out, got in and went down the natural slide. I didn't take any pictures on my camera but here's a video to give you an idea of how fun it was. Hopefully this little video brings a smile to my parents faces because I know they loved it here. Although my Dad had a bit of a scare getting his foot stuck between rocks while treading water. Other than that, I remember this stop vividly when we first came to Australia with our parents.
