We got the news that our in-laws are coming for a visit at the end of next month. Consequently, Anelle and I now have a little more urgency to try new places in order to show them around Adelaide. We know which beaches we will show them. We know what hikes to take them on. So, we just need to find some good places to eat and drink. If there is one thing I know about my in-laws, it is that they enjoy eating good food and enjoying great drinks.
Anelle and I have spent the last two weekends exploring and doing research. We have tried a variety of things from crocodile with local wine and beer during happy hour to vegan burgers paired with handcrafted sodas. It has been an enjoyable two weeks of eating and drinking to say the least.
Let’s start with last weekend. We started with some happy hour specials at Jack Ruby in the Central Business District. Here we had some Wisconsin Mac N Cheese balls, Jack’s Buffalo Wings and some Popcorn Crocodile…yup, crocodile! It had to be done. It was breaded and a bit salty but not bad at all. Anelle enjoyed some local wine from the neighboring Barossa region and I enjoyed a dark Coopers from Adelaide. After a couple hours of winding down, we walked over to the ever so popular Leigh Street for dessert. We read in the local paper that a new Swiss ice-cream shop opened up so we had to check it out. Right? Movenpick does a variety of dishes with ice-cream. We went with a taster that included two scoops of our choice (we went with mint n chip and hazelnut) and it came with two mini pancakes (they treat it like a dessert here). It hit the spot and sent us home with a smile.
