Tomorrow Anelle and I will be making our way back up North towards Cairns. We spent an excellent 3 weeks with this family in Cooroy, which we will undoubtedly stay in contact with for years to come.
Over the next 5 days we will be making our way to our next volunteering location in the Mossman area. We are making some stops at 1770 (the first place Captain Cook landed), Airlie Beach, Townsville and one or two other places along the way.
Anyhow, I wrapped up a GoPro video about our time visiting the Tablelands. The Tablelands in North Queensland is definitely something to make time for if you find yourself in this area. Sure, there are some tours that can take you around to the major sights BUT I would highly recommend renting a car for 2 days and taking your time. It's not a reach to say you will be in awe of one or two of the countless waterfalls you will visit and want to spend an hour or two there.
While setting up for the next GoPro project about the Tablelands, I went through some of the notes on my iPhone and came across a blog post I meant to post back in June. Anelle sent me the video below back in June and as you can probably imagine, I loved it. For several reasons really but mostly because it served as a bit of validation during a time when Anelle and I did not know what was going on with the job offer I got from the Uniersity of Melbourne We didn't know if we were moving to Melbourne, traveling or staying put in Adelaide. The guy in the video below was able to put into words what I had been feeling. Have a look and then read a bit of my take on it while I battled through some doubts back in June.
Hi everyone! So, Anelle and I have figured out the rest of our month. We will spend one more week with Giles, Caroline, Sarah, their dogs Mana and Jack and their horses Maleka and Mirage. We will be heading out to Brissy for a day tomorrow in order to complete a barista course, which we are really looking forward too.
At the conclusion of our time here in Cooroy, we will again make our way back up North to the Mossman region of Northern Queensland. We will be making a few stops along the way; the highlight being a speed boat through the Whitsundays in order to spend a few hours on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
After that, we will be spending September volunteering at a small resort and taking advantage of the time there by exploring the Daintree Rainforest (the oldest rainforest in the world), Cape Tribulation and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. And maybe; just maybe we can put our newly acquired barista skills to use at a local cafe.
Anelle and I have finally arrived in a place where we can settle down for a bit and take a rest from traveling; it gives us chance to catch up on some things while giving our bank accounts a much needed break. Believe it or not, we needed some time off from traveling. This is the first time since living in Adelaide that we have been in one spot longer than 4 days.
At the moment we are doing a bit of volunteering in a town called Cooroy, which is about 20 minutes from the Noosa Heads area. This entire area boasts some incredible beaches, rivers, lakes and national parks.
Through a volunteer program, we found a family that needed some help maintaining their property. They have horses, chickens, 2 dogs and a nice garden that they needed help with. In exchange for work, they have provided us accommodation and meals. We are staying in our own private cottage and wake up each morning to birds and horses grazing in the distance. Our hosts are originally from Zimbabwe and have been living in Australia for nearly 9 years now. From day one, they have been incredibly hospitable and welcoming. It's been a joy to be here volunteering for them.
Anyhow, we've been here for 7 days and hope to stay a bit longer before heading off for some more travels. We'll be taking our time with a road trip back North to the Mossman area. So ya, that's what we've been up to over the last week.
During that time, we have been able to catch up on some of our blog GoPro projects. It was great fun putting this one together. We really enjoyed looking back at the start of our travels after leaving Adelaide. We had a good time driving that little camper, trying to stay warm through the Flinders Ranges, visiting towns with some real character, and enjoying all the funny stops before arriving in the heart of Australia. Have a look at the GoPro video!
Husband & Wife. One with an addiction to cheese and wine, the other with donuts and beer. It's a good thing we both enjoy the outdoors and the gym as much as we do! Follow us while we make a lifetime of memories while trying to avoid all the animals that can kill us In A Sunburned Country.
